Grocery Food Gifts

Grocery Food Gift Idea From Pre-Gift Card Days

Our pastor frequently references that back in the old days, pastors - or ministers as they were called back then - were often paid with food goods instead of money.

Soon, the concept of giving food gifts became referred to as A Pounding, most likely because food was purchased by weight in pounds, especially for baking products such as flower or sugar and other food products sold by the pound.

Gourmet Foods They Are Not

For our food gifting event, our church asked all members to bring store bought canned goods and packaged meats that represented what was grown in the garden or raised on the farm. Some simply gave a pastor appreciation cash gift we call love tokens. Nothing fancy or gourmet but basic foods for everyday eating.

Grocery Gift Cards New Variation

A simple way to give food gifts these days would be grocery store gift cards or even specialty food gift cards even found at Amazon and other specialty food websites.
